Javan Warty Pig - Social Measurement Consultancy

September - December 2024

Project Description

We assisted Javan Species Recovery Programme (JaSpeR) to design (including the ethical clearance / IRB Review process) of the measurement, analysis, and reporting on community attitude towards Sus verrucosus in southern part of West Java. Javan Warty Pig in-situ conservation faces challenges to human-wildlife conflict as their habitat overlaps with agricultural area and negative cultural attitude towards the species. The research procedure have passed the Institutional Review Board of the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Indonesia (No. 145/FPsi.Komite Etik/PDP.04.00/2024).

This research employed the pencil and paper method. To avoid bias in educational background (like reading comprehension level), two enumerators assisted the process by reading all the questions in the questionnaires to each participant face-to-face. The data was collected in two particular areas, whereby both are the distribution area of JWP, but one village was the intervention area, and another village stood for comparison (control).
